The 5 Best Peptides for Women’s Skin and Health

Aging is a natural part of life, but as the years go by, the world we live in becomes aggressively anti-aging.

This is why more and more women have an unhealthy obsession with being wrinkle-free and glorified for looking younger and sexier than their age might suggest.

They always seek the ultimate “fountain of youth” so they can maintain or recapture their looks… and the attention that comes with it.

As a result, they opt for plastic surgeries, liposuction, botox, anti-aging creams, gene editing technology… and even peptides to be perceived as healthy, radiant, and attractive in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond.

Peptides have been creating a buzz for their anti-aging, weight management, and sex drive benefits.

The question is: do peptides for women really live up to the hype?

Peptide Therapy for Women: How Does it Help?

Over time, cells that are not functioning properly can lead to health issues, including developing noticeable signs of aging like wrinkles, aches and pains, and even brain issues such as Alzheimer’s, to name a few.

For women, a single line showing on her face might mean spending tons of money on skincare products and procedures.

However, aside from Botox and fillers, creams, and medicines, there’s another effective option that promises them the opportunity to look and feel like the best versions of themselves.

Not only could you feel like a younger, happier woman, but you can also become more confident (especially in the bedroom) and look better than ever!

Whether you want to drop that stubborn weight, erase those annoying fine lines and wrinkles, or finally reclaim your energy and boost libido levels, there’s an incredible new option that can do it all: peptides.

The loss of cell function is common in aging. Using peptides can help these cells regain their efficiency.

The reason peptides work so well is that our bodies recognize them.

“Your body already knows exactly what this signaling peptide is trying to do. We’re just using them to right the ship.”

So how can women benefit from using peptides? Here are three major ways.

#1 Helps Fat Loss & Muscle Growth

Peptides help with two things: promoting fat loss and enhancing muscle-building.

Using peptides for women helps boost the secretion of growth hormones, which are important for the development of lean muscle mass, the stimulation of muscle cells, and recovery post-workout.

Thus, it results in muscle growth and fat reduction, which helps you achieve that toned and healthy physique you’ve always desired.

There are two ways peptides help with fat loss.

Receptor binding

The receptor is a molecule found in the human body that, when it binds with the ligand, transduces biological signals that help with weight loss.

Peptides can specifically recognize and bind to receptors on the cell surface, thus exerting the effects of agonists or inhibitors.

An example of this is leptin. Leptin inhibits food intake and increases energy consumption by acting on receptors in the central nervous system to regulate the activity of appetite-related central neurons in the brain.

Hormone effects

Some peptides can encourage or stop the release of the gastric growth hormone-releasing polypeptide (ghrelin), which is a polypeptide composed of 28 amino acids.

When ghrelin is combined with the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, it can promote the secretion of growth hormones (GH). In addition, several intestinal peptides have been indicated to induce gastric leptin release, leading to weight loss.

Therefore, if you want to lose weight and build a toned physique, peptides can make that happen.

#2 Increases Sex Drive

In a study published in the Journal of Neurology International, researchers worked with women who suffered from female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD).

These women had no desire for sexual activities and had decreased sexual fantasies. They also did not respond to stimulation and easily lost a desire for sex.

They usually felt distressed, making them avoid sexual activities as much as possible.

Research shows that women who suffer from HSDD have imbalances in neurotransmitter melanocortin, oxytocin, and norepinephrine

Melanocortin stimulates desire, while oxytocin and norepinephrine stimulate sexual arousal.

The use of specific peptides for women activates the presynaptic melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R), which studies have shown to enhance sexual brain processing and secrete dopamine to brain areas responsible for regulating arousal and orgasm.

In females, administration of peptides act primarily on the presynaptic MC4R and stimulates the release of dopamine to portions of the nucleus accumbens, medial preoptic area, verbal tegmental area, arcuate nucleus, and the medial and basolateral amygdala.

These brain areas are involved in regulating the motivational, arousal, and appetitive aspects of sexual behavior.

As a result, these women had boosted their desire, arousal, and orgasm scores after taking peptides before any sexual activity.

#3 Reduces Wrinkles and Has Anti-Aging Effects

Our skin has a so-called dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ), which is a fine line located between the dermis and epidermis.

The DEJ is necessary for skin homeostasis and function because it helps boost the adhesion and physical interlock of the layers. It also creates niches for epidermal stem cells, regulates the cellular microenvironment, and provides a physical boundary layer between fibroblasts and keratinocytes.

However, as women age, the DEJ becomes thinner, resulting in low protein production, including collagen and elastin fibers. This can weaken the skin, making it less firm and leading to fine lines and wrinkles.

In contrast, peptides for women help smoothen the skin by increasing collagen production and improving elasticity.

“In skincare, peptides are best known for stimulating skin repair and inhibiting the signs of aging,” explains Dr. Geeta Yadav, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of FACET Dermatology.

Collagen is made of three polypeptide chains, so adding peptides to your skincare routine can stimulate collagen production even more.

In a study published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, researchers worked with 22 normal, healthy volunteers aged 40 or older to identify the effects of peptides on premature aging.

These women were asked to use peptides on their faces and necks.

After two weeks of consistently using peptides, researchers noticed a reduction in the appearance of aging skin among the participants.5

All of the measured wrinkles were significantly improved compared to the baseline value. The highest improvement was observed for glabellar frown lines (12.51 +/− 7.86), while the lowest improvement was found for crow’s feet (6.09 +/− 7.38).

This shows that peptides can help improve wrinkles in various facial sites and the neck area in women after only two weeks of use.

Some peptides even have a mild botox-like effect that will relax muscles and treat fine lines,” said Dr. Murphy-Rose, a board-certified dermatologist at the Center for Laser and Skin Surgery in New York.

Therefore, peptides can help minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines so you look younger.

The 5 Best Peptides for Women

It’s no secret that men and women have many physiological differences, with one being the way our bodies operate on a biological level.

Below we listed our top-picked peptides for women to help them achieve their weight loss goal, boost their sex drive, and enjoy wrinkle-free skin.

Ipamorelin

Ipamorelin is a synthetic tetrapeptide used by women to promote health and longevity. It helps in many physiological processes, including metabolism, creating lean muscle mass, and contributing to the body’s overall reparative mechanisms.

It belongs to the secretagogue class, as it signals the body to secrete growth hormones and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1).

These natural hormones and IGF-1 help with weight management, energy levels, muscle growth, skin health, bone density, brain and cognitive functioning, and heart health.

Most women love ipamorelin because it can help them burn that dangling fats while promoting lean muscle mass, which helps them lose even more fat.

How does it happen?

Ipamorelin mimics the action of ghrelin, a hormone responsible for managing the appetite and distributing energy within the body.

Ghrelin is naturally present in the gastrointestinal system. When it binds to ghrelin receptors, it triggers the release of GH from the pituitary gland.

As we age, our GH levels decline.

As a pentapeptide, ipamorelin has been shown in vitro and in vivo studies to be a more stable and long-lasting variant of ghrelin, thereby helping to maintain healthy levels of GH in the body.

Therefore, you can achieve toned muscles and lose fat at the same time with this peptide.

I highly recommend using ipamorelin along with CJC-1295 for maximal GH production and release.

Tirzepatide

Tirzepatide is a medication used for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) treatment.

It works by mimicking the action of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists, a naturally occurring hormone in the body.

It also activates the GIP receptors, which are key mediators of insulin secretion and are also present in brain regions that regulate food intake.

GIP stimulates glucagon secretion, while GLP-1 inhibits it.

Aside from combining the properties of semaglutide, tirzepatide is also a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide.

Not only does it manage blood sugar levels, but it also has anti-obesity benefits, helping to reduce your appetite, boost your metabolism, and reduce your energy intake, which can help you lose weight.

In fact, several clinical trials have shown that patients who took tirzepatide experienced significant body weight improvements compared to those who got a placebo.

In a study conducted by researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, results showed that those who took tirzepatide for 12 weeks lost 5 kg or more.

Of the 806 participants enrolled in the study, 579 (71.8%) presented weight loss of 5 kg or greater (mean 6.9% weight reduction) by week 12 and were included in the tirzepatide trial.

Statistical analyses revealed that a greater proportion of participants receiving tirzepatide interventions either lost additional weight or maintained ≥80% of weight lost during the lead-in period compared to the placebo group.

These results are highlighted in efficacy statistics, revealing that 98.6% of case participants maintained the ≥80% endpoint versus only 37.8% of the placebo controls.

Case participants experienced an average weight loss of -26.6% at the end of the 84-week-long study, compared to -3.8% in the control cohort.

Correspondingly, the average BMI change of the case-cohort was −10.4 kg/m2 compared to –1.4 kg/m2 in the control cohort.

In addition to the weight loss benefits shown in the above studies, tirzepatide can also help in reducing lipid levels, controlling blood pressure, and improving fasting insulin levels.

GHK-Cu

The human copper-binding peptide, GHK-Cu, is a small, naturally occurring tri-peptide present in human plasma. This can also be released from body tissue in case of an injury.

It is composed of the amino acids glycine, histidine, and lysine bound to a copper ion.

Since its discovery in 1973, GHK-Cu has established itself as a powerful protective and regenerative ingredient widely used in skin and hair products.

Researcher Dr. Loren Pickart, in his groundbreaking research on copper peptides, revealed that GHK-Cu has skin rejuvenation and wound-healing benefits. It can potentially reduce inflammation and accelerate tissue repair, making it a great addition to women’s skincare products and treatments.

The influence of GHK-CU on gene expression is one of the keys to its effectiveness.

By modulating the expression of specific genes involved in collagen synthesis and tissue regeneration, it promotes firmer and healthier skin while supporting overall cellular health.

The peptide’s ability to stimulate collagen production also aids in maintaining elasticity and reducing visible signs of aging.

To date, it has been established that GHK-Cu is able to:

Rejuvenate and Regenerate Skin

When we are young, our skin has well-functioning repair and protective mechanisms that allow it to withstand damage and repair itself.

However, as we age, this ability to repair damage declines.

GHK content is highest in the plasma of young, healthy individuals.

At age 20, the plasma level of GHK is about 200 ng/mL (10−7 M), and by the age of 60, it declines to 80 ng/mL.

In the experiment that led to the discovery of GHK, plasma from young individuals added to liver tissue obtained from older individuals, caused old liver tissue to produce proteins more characteristic of younger individuals.

Researchers believe that GHK-Cu may be an early signal for skin repair in three ways:

  • GHK stimulates collagen synthesis, proteoglycan decorin to regulate the collagen matrix assembly, and selected glycosaminoglycans to support collagen and elastin.
  • It regulates the activity of key metalloproteinases — enzymes that facilitate the activity of anti-proteases and the breakdown of proteins of the extracellular matrix — preventing the buildup of excessive proteolysis and damaged proteins.
  • GHK boosts glycosaminoglycans production in fibroblasts — key cells in the skin regeneration process. This stimulates chondroitin sulfate synthesis, increasing collagen production. GHK, in combination with LED irradiation, increases cell viability 12.5-fold. It also produces the basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) by 230% and collagen synthesis by 70%.

Reduce Appearances of Wrinkles and Fine Lines

Several studies have shown that using GHK-Cu consistently for 12 weeks can improve signs of aging in women, including reducing fine lines, the depth of wrinkles, and pigmentation.

A facial cream containing GHK-Cu applied for 12 weeks to the facial skin of 71 women with mild to advanced signs of photoaging increased skin density and thickness, reduced laxity, improved clarity, and reduced fine lines and the depth of wrinkles.

A GHK-Cu eye cream applied for 12 weeks around the eye area of 41 women with mild to advanced photodamage performed better than placebo and vitamin K cream.

It reduced lines and wrinkles, improved overall appearance, and increased skin density and thickness.

GHK-Cu applied to thigh skin for 12 weeks improved collagen production in 70% of the women treated, in contrast to 50% treated with the vitamin C cream and 40% treated with retinoic acid.

In addition to improving skin laxity, clarity, firmness, and appearance, reducing fine lines, coarse wrinkles, and mottled pigmentation while increasing skin density and thickness, GHK-Cu cream applied twice daily for 12 weeks also strongly stimulated dermal keratinocyte proliferation.

Thus, GHK-Cu peptide can help improve skin hydration, smoothen skin, and improve skin elasticity and contrast in women.

Wound Healing

GHK-CU accelerates damaged skin repair, especially for women dealing with scars or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

In fact, multiple animal studies show that GHK-CU can stimulate wound healing.

In rabbit experimental wounds, using GHK alone or with high-dose helium-neon laser treatment helped improve wound contraction and the formation of granular tissue required to fill in the wound bed. It also boosted antioxidant enzyme activities and promoted blood vessel growth.

Blood vessel growth is an important factor in skin healing and regeneration.

Similarly, collagen dressing with GHK (PIC-Peptide Incorporated Collagen) helped heal ischemic open wounds in healthy and diabetic rats 9 times faster than usual.

This group showed increased glutathione (GSH) and ascorbic acid levels, better epithelialization, and improved collagen synthesis and activation of fibroblasts and mast cells in wounds.

Anti-Inflammatory Effects

Inflammation is a common enemy of healthy skin. GHK-CU has potent anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe sensitive and irritated skin.

In an animal study, those who were given GHK to treat wounds demonstrated increased antioxidant enzyme levels.

This is because GHK inactivates free radical by-products of lipid peroxidation, including acrolein, 4-hydroxynonenal, malondialdehyde, and glyoxal, which protect cultured skin keratinocytes from ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

GHK was shown in the study to block Cu(2+)-dependent oxidation of low-density lipoproteins (LDL) compared to superoxide dismutase (SOD1), which only provides about 20% protection.

Therefore, using GHK-CU can help soothe irritated and sensitive skin through its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Stimulate Hair Growth

It’s not just your skin that can benefit from GHK-CU.

Recent studies suggest that using GHK-CU topically increases the size and thickness of hair follicles at the cellular level, promoting hair growth.

This activation leads to healthier, fuller, and more robust hair growth.

PT-141 (Bremelanotide)

Bremelanotide or PT-141 is a synthetic peptide developed to help with low sexual desire in women.

It is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring hormone called alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), which regulates appetite, immune function, sexual behavior, and other physiological processes in the body.

Bremelanotide was originally developed from melanotan II, a hormone that induces skin tanning. However, melanotan II resulted in sexual arousal and erections during the initial tests.

The peptide PT-141 is now popular for:

  • Boosting libido and sexual desire in men and women
  • Improving physical response
  • Vaginal vasoconstriction for women
  • Increasing sensations of pleasure

Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), or persistent deficiency or absence of sexual fantasies and desire in women, occurs because of the imbalances of neurotransmitters dopamine, melanocortin, norepinephrine, and oxytocin.

Using bremelanotide non-selectively activates the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R), melanocortin 2 receptor (MC2R), melanocortin 3 receptor (MC3R), melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R), and melanocortin 5 receptor (MC5R).

Activation of MC4R in women stimulates the release of dopamine to portions of the nucleus accumbens, arcuate nucleus, verbal tegmental area, medial preoptic area, and the medial and basolateral amygdala, promoting arousal and appetitive aspects of sexual behavior.

In fact, women with HSDD who took bremelanotide reported moderate or high sexual desire and more positive responses to feelings of genital arousal compared to the placebo.

The earliest clinical study of bremelanotide took place in a 2006 randomized controlled clinical trial that evaluated physiological and subjective measurements of sexual arousal and desire in premenopausal women diagnosed with HSDD.

Eighteen women received intranasal doses of bremelanotide or matching placebo on the first and second in-clinic visits. In each session, women were shown a 20-minute normal video followed by a 20-minute sexually explicit video.

The perceived sexual response was evaluated through questionnaires and vaginal vasocongestion, which was measured by vaginal photoplethysmography.

When administered bremelanotide compared to the placebo, women reported moderate or high sexual desire (p = 0.0114).

Women also reported more positive responses to feelings of genital arousal (p = 0.0833) and more satisfaction with the level of sexual arousal when attempting sexual intercourse in the following 24 hours (p = 0.0256).

The study reported no adverse effects from bremelanotide administration.

Don’t want to disappoint your husband or partner in bed? Try the peptide bremelanotide to boost your libido and performance.

Matrixyl 3000

Matrixyl 3000 is one of the most effective synthetic peptides used in skincare.

The two specific peptides that compose it — palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 — are considered “messenger” peptides (or matrikines), as they help in the repair and renewal of women’s skin at a cellular level.

As we age, collagen production slows down.

Moreover, UV exposure can damage it even more quickly, resulting in the appearance of wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines.

These duo peptides signal the cells to produce more collagen.

Palmitoyl tripeptide-1 is a synthetic version of the naturally occurring peptide TGF-beta, which is important for collagen synthesis.

Meanwhile, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 helps minimize skin inflammation, which triggers collagen breakdown.

As a result, it improves skin texture, lessens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, and increases skin firmness and elasticity.

In vivo studies on 93 women, including placebo subjects, and conducted in a double-blind clinical study, results show that an application of palmitoylated peptide improves the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

In addition to its collagen-boosting effects, matrixyl also helps with the following:

  • Increases glycosaminoglycans (GAG) production, which helps enhance skin hydration, smoothness, and texture.
  • Supports the skin’s natural repair mechanisms, reducing the depth and volume of fine lines and wrinkles in women’s skin.
  • Boosts hyaluronic acid production, a natural humectant that aids in maintaining skin hydration.
  • Neutralizes free radicals to prevent oxidative damage that can lead to premature aging caused by UV radiation and pollution.

Therefore, if you want to maintain healthy, youthful skin, add matrixyl 3000 to your everyday skincare routine.
